The laid-back groove of the Brooks Prumo Orchestra hits the sweet spot. This is fine swing without any try-hard hype. The studio mix is balanced, and it hops and slides like music should (unlike some other contemporary jazz). "Out of Nowhere" is outstanding: inspired arrangement, knockout playing, genuine emotion. The vocal numbers get better with every listen, and "Blue Lester" has about it a certain sunburn-on-your-skin mint julep nighttime ease. jakespatz

Mysterioso is my favorite track on this album. The strong base, Laid back solos that don't try too hard and the brilliant layering of the melody add a depth to this song that isn't found very often. Whether dancing or listening to this track, I hear something new every time I listen to it and continue to appreciate it more and more. Also, the album is beautifully mixed to make you feel like you are in a small jazz club where the band is only playing for you and your partner. coreymanke
